November 2025
OCTOBER REFLECTION:
I'm going to say something I never thought I'd say, "I miss the days where my kids were into every holiday related activity." This year my kiddos didn't even want to decorate pumpkins, I guess this is life with a 7 & 12 year old. I have to admit the last time we went to the pumpkin patch (mini carnival) I did bicker a lot about the price gouging, but in hindsight- I miss the memories and the look of excitement they had.
If I could go back to that overwhelmed, young mom, version of myself and give her some advice... find joy in the moment. Have boundaries and know your limits, don't say "yes" to everything, but go and savor the joy.
At least we still have actual Halloween... my kids have brought back the family costume and they've decided to go with the Harry Potter theme. We are all dressing as our House- I'm a Hufflepuff, so I'll be wearing a yellow and black striped scarf my daughter is crocheting for me. Fun fact, when we vacationed at universal studios over the summer we were all assigned our house by the Wizard. We have all 4 houses in our family, each of us representing a different house.

LOOKING TO THANKSGIVING:
My favorite holiday of the year has always been Thanksgiving. I love the food, the emphasis on relaxing, and most of all the family time together. It's so simple and wholesome.
Here are the traditions we do leading up to the holiday
- Gratitude pumpkin- every day we write on the pumpkin one thing we are grateful for... sometimes it gets pretty funny. Like when my 3 year old son said "nuts."
- Food pantry shopping and donation as a family.
- We assemble a giant Thanksgiving Day puzzle, like 1000+ pieces.
- Turkey and stuffing muffins with the left overs.
Since I have the memory of an ant these peri-menopausal days... I use my Traditions pages to keep track of things I don't want to forget. I just peeked at it and added all the things to my calendar so they don't get forgotten. After all, things can only become traditions if they're a regular occurence.
What traditions do you have for Thanksgiving with your family?
Since my mom will be celebrating with us, I'll also need to get the guest space ready for her. November is a great month to declutter, straighten up, and make your guest space cozy. You don't have to go over the top, just put a little intention into how you want the space to feel for those you're welcoming into your home.
